Obtain the device node reference with scoped/cleanup.h to reduce error
handling and make the code a bit simpler.

Ah. I was wondering why you didn't do this in patch 1.
Sensible to split though I'd have put it as patch 2 for the lazy reviewer
to spot more easily ;)
